Celebration Of Women And Girls In Sport - Sponsored By Babcock

Celebration of Women and Girls in Sport

Plymouth is gearing up for an action-packed day as the Celebration of Women and Girls in Sport event takes place at Home Park on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, sponsored by Babcock, and in partnership with Plymouth City Council and Active Devon.

This FREE half-term event promises a fantastic afternoon and evening for families and friends, with opportunities to discover new sports, meet local teams, and enjoy live demonstrations.

Discover new sports, meet local teams, and try activities like cheerleading, boxing, football, water sports, and more.

Alongside the sporting action, a dedicated Health and Wellbeing Zone will offer practical advice on looking after both physical and mental health, as well as raising important awareness around violence against women and girls.

With stadium cover ensuring the event goes ahead rain or shine, and free parking at Milehouse Park & Ride, this is the perfect way to spend a day during half-term.

As part of the activities, your free ticket gives you entry to Argyle’s FA Women’s National League clash against Exeter City at the Theatre of Greens (7.30pm KO). Make sure you stay around, get behind, and cheer on Marie Hourihan’s side from the stands in the Devon Derby!

The Celebration of Women and Girls in Sport opens its doors at 2.30pm, with all attendees invited into the Home Park stands from 6.30pm, and will include:

  • A wide range of sports on show; athletics, cheerleading, boxing, football, rugby, and cricket, to name a few.
  • Live demonstrations and exhibition matches from local clubs and organisations.
  • Interactive stands for visitors to try out new sports and speak to coaches.
  • A Health and Wellbeing Zone with expert advice on physical and mental health.

The Celebration of Women and Girls in Sport event is fully inclusive. We are proud to welcome organisations representing SEN sports teams and providing opportunities for people with lower mobility or additional needs to participate and enjoy the day.

Our goal is to ensure that everyone feels welcome and has the chance to experience the joy of sport, regardless of ability or background.

Argyle Women Head Coach Marie Hourihan said: “This is an exciting event taking place at Home Park. Women’s football, and many other sports, have seen a meteoric rise in popularity across the globe, and we’re all extremely proud to play our part within Plymouth and the surrounding areas in this success as well.

“This season, with attendance and all-round support at games, online and in the local community, has only further boosted our excitedness about being able to host this event. We can’t wait to see you all here and enjoy all the activities on offer.”

Councillor Kate Taylor, Plymouth City Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for sport and leisure, said: “It’s fantastic to see sports and wellbeing providers from across Devon and Cornwall coming together to celebrate women’s sporting achievements and showcase all the opportunities on offer.

“Women’s sport has grown massively over the last few years and I’ve watched closely as Argyle have increased attendances and interest in their own women’s team.

“It's so important for women and girls to feel they have a place in sport and can progress in their field – or take up a completely new activity, whether competitively or just for fun.

“I look forward to joining this brilliant celebration at Home Park next month, hearing about everyone’s stories and projects, and cheering on the Greens against City!”
